Sub-domains - do they count?
Ok, I've just taken one of my pages and translated it into Spanish. I then made it a sub-domain by using "espanol.mysitename.com". Every one of my English pages point to the Spanish version and the other way around.
Now, does my sub-domained Spanish site count as a completely new website and start off with no PR, authority, age, etc.? Do I have to start getting links for the sub-domain too or is having it linked by my entire English site good enough?
Would I have been better off keeping the directory as mysitename.com/espanol/ ??

Re: Sub-domains - do they count?
Sorry...
Ok, EVERY PAGE has it's own PR. It is not a site wide thing. So YES the new PAGES will be seen as new and start from scratch just as ANY new page you add to your site would.
You need to build back links to ANY page you have deemed as a 'target' page. Never stop at merely having links pointing to the home page
Having the main site linking to it, will pass some PR Love and increase indexation...

Re: Sub-domains - do they count?
I tested this a month ago translating a client's homepage using babelfish to spanish, dutch and french. It was very successful as we started get searches from google and yahoo in the respective languages. I used subfolders instead if subdomains. We are now working to translate the entire site.
