I agree with w_bean on the scripts to prevent theft the same people you really want to keep from swiping your stuff will get it anyway. I use the right mouse button, I think, once for every three times I use the left one.
I think the most effective methods are the subtle little watermark some where that advertises your site if someone does take it and sliding the actual image to the background with a repeating clear.gif named ReallyCoolPic.gif over the cell, div, whatever so they don't know what didn't get (unless they go rifling through their cache).

What if your site... in the US, is copied by a guy in Brazil... assuming that Brazil doesnt enforce the same laws as the US? My guess would be that thats it, tough cookies, but im curious what the law savvy chaps above say
This coversation reminds me about the hackers who move out to oil rigs and do just about anything they like... cause there is no law in nowhere.

Brazil is a signatory of the Berne Convention, so you certainly could take action.
Being a Berne signatory, means that the country's national laws must provide at least the legal protection specified in the convention, and MUST respect the rights of foreign authors.
Quote: "An author from any country that is a signatory of the convention is awarded the same rights in all other countries that are signatories to the Convention as they allow their own nationals, as well as any rights granted by the Convention." Source: Berne Convention factsheet
Copying your work without permission is illegal, pretty much wherever the perpetrator lives, I guess it's just more expensive to pursue?
When I ran my own business, I had people copy my content and start up a competing business on three separate occasions, (using my content, and in one case a very similar trading name). I took action as is my right under copyright law, and they had to remove the content. In one case the copied content was simply removed, in another case the site was closed down, and in the final one, (the one with the similar name), I actually got the guy to hand over his web-domain to me as well.
Fortunately, it only ever went as far as solicitor's letters, so it didn't get too pricey.
My understanding is that you can claim damages to reclaim legal costs, but I don't know how you go about that

If you want to track your site you could try the online service at http://www.copyscape.com
or go to http://www.faganfinder.com/urlinfo/ - and monitor via the tracking tab.

How I can copyright a website's content? Where I should apply? Is it free or not?
Most countries are signatories to Berne, (but if you want to be sure, there's also a full list of countries at http://www.copyrightaid.co.uk/copyright … ignatories)
Thanks.
Turkey is listed. It is good. So I'm free to put the (c) sign.
