Do you use the back button?
Do you assume your site visitors will use the back button?
I build useful navigation but try not to clutter up the page with needless navigation.
The back button is there for a reason, so I don't need to put an extra one in my page. If my site visitor decides not to use the browser back button and is then confused as to how to get back to a previous page - more fool user!
What are people's thoughts?
How competent are your site's visitors?
[the only time i may put in extra navigation is when the pages contain post or session data]
I think, you´re right.
One cause for back-buttons is, perhaps you can direct your visitor back for a reason.
(is this an english sentence ?
)

i always let the browser back button do the job, as you say it's there for a reason!
