I thought that articles were not supposed to be 'blatantly' self promoting...
Could it be that one slipped by?
Well, I own this site and I'm your first line of support. I'll make sure you get a refund provided you've followed the guidelines
in this article.

I read the post title, and then the article and it got me thinking.........
Given that a domain name averages at about £10/year it's not a lot of wasted money......|
....and I'll stop right there because I'm wondering..."Is it wasted money? If I made the typo, who else will?" and there is the idea
Stop stressing about it and go and register the domain without the typo.
Put your site on the correctly spelt domain and set up a 301 from the typo'd one.
If it doesn't bring in any traffic over the year you don't have to renew it. If it does bring in traffic then there's nothing to worry about!

No prob. Sorting thru so many must be a humungus task. There's bound to be a few 'unintentionals' slipping through...
Northie,
In Aust, US, Canada etc the .com, net & biz domains average around $8 - $10 each - Which I believe is even cheaper than the $10 pounds in the UK (which I think is for .co.uk domains), so it's even less money to worry about here - The UK is the only place I've heard of where the 'local, country specific' domains are cheaper than the 'international' ones.

Interesting that you say that -
Some people want to charge me USD$15 for a .net, .com, .org, but I can get them for about USD$1-USD$2
The cheapest I can get a .co.uk, .org.uk is GBP£6.09 for 2 years [~USD$11 ](which includes all fees and VAT)
But .uk.com, .tv etc works out at about GBP£35 for 2 years
Hense an estimated (weighted) average of £10

I see... What's the difference between a .co.uk and a uk.com ?

Wizabout £30!
I figured that. What's the difference in terms of what you can or can't do.
e.g. Can you submit both to Google or Yahho UK - or does oone of them have to go on the 'International'. For instance, I can't put any .com, net or biz on Google.com.au (which will make it come up in a search for Aust sites only...
Are there any differences like this?

No idea.
I'm guessing that the .com might add some weight and the .uk allows regional specific services
