Re: Refer-a-friend promo help needed

Hi,

I admit Tell-A-Friend sounds great at first glance.

However, I would at least be careful about tell-a-friend scripts. Especially if you use it in combination with a free gift, free download or price to win as you do, it will have people coming in that will be sending to "friends" of them that are no "friends" of them, just for collecting the gifts...  butter

This means, a lot of people will receive tell-a-friend mails for your list that do not even know their friends. Result: you'll receive lots of complaints and your ISP and many eMail providers will receive these complaints as well. You may get blacklisted.

For this reason aWeber for example does not allow any Tell-A-Friend scripts till date.

Re: Refer-a-friend promo help needed

I'm new at EVERYTHING associated with websites and website marketing, but this I can tell you... I have a 13 year old daughter and she and hundreds of her friends send me everything via myspace. I would get it out on myspace and see if that doesn't help you market it... But what do I know?

Good luck!

Re: Refer-a-friend promo help needed

well it really depends on your marketing budget...if the sky's the limit..then so are your possibilities

if your budget is tight then one good place to start would be through joint ventures or affiliates

if you can build yourself a virtual salesforce to do the marketing for you, your task will be a lot easier

this won't cost you anything up front..but it will take lots of effort on your part to establish those connections...but that's the way things go..either you throw money or your time at it

i have another question for you though...why tell-a-friend script? have you researched this? there are plenty of them out there including many quality free ones. I'm not saying you can't do very well selling your own but i don't want to see you spend a lot of time and effort on something that may not be fruitfull. Have you done any research to see if people would by yours over others?

Re: Refer-a-friend promo help needed

Like Nic said it's all about the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Marketing is very 'budget centric' in that you can only do so much for free.... much of getting people's attention is going to cost.

Timing is important as well --

FAST = $$$$$
SLOW = Do it Your Self

As I like to tell clients and potential clients -- If it was cheap and easy to get noticed (or to the top of the SERPs) - then everyone would be successful ( or ranked #1 ).... but it simply isn't the case ( or I wouldn't have a job now would I?)

This is where much of the risk comes from in business - not unlike a poker hand - If you want to find out if your idea is a good one... It's gonna cost ya!!

Re: Refer-a-friend promo help needed

Not really.... it really got to the point it was unsatisfying in that folks would come along with KWs in hand and expect riches... which generally brought 2 probs

1. KW research is ESSENTIAL the massive difference from one term to the next in traffic can be truly AMAZING (right Nic?) -- Nic has a site where a mere dash (-) makes the difference between the #1 and #2 referrers.. and is a difference of 20k visitors.  So establishing the money terms is KEY - most folks won't pay for it... they think THEY have it figured out

2. Many times the site a client has SUCKS which means no matter how many rankings/visitors I bring, they are likely doomed to failure - conversion rates will suck

So I prefer to work 'wholistically' these days... more of a business consultant so I can look at things from a larger perspective than SEO avails me.

I do love the technical aspects of SEO - just not the client expectations... ha ha ha h aha..... ( silk from a sows ear -- ya know?).

Hmmm, although I, again, learned why my gut was right about tell-a-friend campaigns, I'm a bit curious. The original post was from last August. Is Broken still around to tell us what he/she decided to do?

Yesterday, i was wondering, that why are you not interested in bulk emails services, which ensures you that your legitimate email will send into spam filtered world. So, i suggest you a better solution from previous post and you should adopt it first. For this, you explore[url removed] and get account over here. They guarantee their customers that their emails go directly to subscriber's inbox.

Bill,
I know those "legitimate e-mails" type! The ones with the acredited e-mail and Can Spam act logos on the bottom?! Yeah, they're the ones most often forwarded to the FTC by me! The only legitimate mass e-mails are those where you get the list from folks who have opt-in (signed up) for YOUR list, not a second, third or fourth party certainly-you-wouldn't-mind crap, IMHO, of course. Half of my spam, anymore, comes from "legitimate e-mailers."  (If I sign up for something, I also opt-out to any other e-mails, if possible.) I'd rather trust used-car salespeople anymore, even if they are the type that follow me every where, including the bathroom, with their big smiles and wringing hands promising me a free car! (Do you think I might have some trust issues?! big_smile)

Broken,
BTW, I'm impressed! Good job!

Instead of pointing someone, if you have better idea then give it to us. It is easy to speak anything but hard to give any proof. I am clear in my words that i posted earlier. There is no doubt about this bulk email services that i have offered.

Re: Refer-a-friend promo help needed

Not a problem! How would you like me to do this -- add all the spam I get from these folks to this thread (which I'm thinking might annoy the heck out of the mods and owner of this forum blinka), PM them all to you, or would you like me simply to forward them all to you, as a CC while I forward them on to the FTC? If the last one, please PM me your e-mail address, and I'll be happy to oblige.

Also, how many would you like as proof -- 10? 20? 50? 100? 1000? (OK the last one might take me up to a week, once I divide the spam that doesn't come from them from the ones that do.)

As for pointing to a better solution -- well, ummmm, as the rest of the thread showed, Broken went with his own idea, and it was quite successful. Not quite sure why you think he wanted more ideas, when his original worked well, so, it would seem, that he could be giving us all more ideas that work! blinka

(Broken, don't know if you are a guy or gal, just went with the masculine pronouns like you went with "guys," as a colloquialism, and simply easier to guess then be grammatically correct. big_smile)

Re: Refer-a-friend promo help needed

I am locking this thread as some claims and counter claims are being made with no resolution in sight. If the two parties concerned can take the argument to a private place please.
