100% of our clients 'want to rank well in Google'. This means I am making a portion of MY living from Google. It is kind of silly of me to complain about them.

It's they're company and if I wish to participate in their offerings, I have a set of rules to play by.

Don't building contrators have building codes? hmmmm..... all the same to me, except our 'guidelines' may not always be the clearest.

No can do. I sign non competition clauses ( and non-disclosures) that prevent me from working for more than one at a time in such an instance.

It hasn't happened yet and I am not really looking to be a large enough that it would likely be an issue.

In short, while I work for you, I won't be working for the competition.

I have had a close call I suppose in that we have a long term client that is in the COIN marketplace.
Another fellow that came along had a shop doing Military Coins. I checked with the original client about it and as he was a larger more secure shop and didn't sell any military coins to speak of, it wasn't much of an issue.

So far, that's about it.... I would always defer to any existing agreements on non-competition though.

You have to admit that it would be interesting to take 3 webs with identical framework and a common keyword to 3 different SEO companies to see who wins. I always laugh when I see the “guaranteed” #1 position ads, how funny. You get more control and much better odds at the casinos.


Of course you get unlimited bonus points if you can shed light on the issue in your PM

I'll price out a top10, top20,top 30 given ideal circumstances (clean link profile, no penalties)... which is basically a page 1-2-3 result for a term.

That's about it.

OH.. and my contract states that if the SE changes and algo ... not my fault, not my problem. I haven't to use it yet..but hey, I have to be covered.

I figure what is 'grey-hat' today will be 'black-hat' tomorrow. So we keep strategies White. It's that simple. You see it's not MY SITE. It is a clients. I can't play games with some one's business.

I have been working with SMBs for nearly 20 years now. They're my life blood and are what feeds my kids. They always come first....

OH and the quote at the beginning of the article this week was from one of those 'Guaranteed #1' SEO programs... He wanted ME to do the SEO for his SEO crap program... YES.. HE WANTED US TO GET HIM A TOP !) FOR HIS 'GET A TOP !)" program...ha ha ha ha ha haha..what an experience

I told him I couldn't do it ethically... and he said;

I do not need, require or am under an obligation to have my product reviewed by anyone in any industry... and especially not to just have a few articles written. I believe ethics is important however until a "formal" registered SEO body puts in place such a code, I do not have time to worry about such matters as I am a busy person. And even if such matters did come about I would be wanting to know the exact and how many "leading" companies (as there are thousands) in the industry had input into theses "ethics" and other companies that did not but voted to for such a code or document.

We once were building a site for a guy with a program to 'Make a Million Dollars in Real Estate' --- he whined..we're behind schedule.. I am losing money...

We had to think;  "Why not take your own course'? -- then you wouldn't be whining about the $$$...
