Hello,
Does anyone have any experience or advice concerning converting an existing web site built on Yahoo!'s SiteBuilder to FrontPage?
I have grown to a point where the limitations of SiteBuilder is out weighing the ease of use. Yes, my forehead is bruised.
Thank you.
Michael

Hi Michael,
I've used FrontPage since 1997. I'll take a stab at an answer.
First, I recommend you download FP2003. That's the version I use now. You will need to ask your host to add the required extensions. Or, your cPanel may already have them available. Make sure you activate those extensions, or FrontPage won't work.
After you download FP, you should be able to copy and paste your source code right into the FP program. Be sure to remove any reference to Yahoo!'s SiteBuilder which may be lurking in the code.
Let us know how you make out!

I would also suggest looking at Adobe Dreamweaver as an alternative.
My answer would be don't. Front page outputs awful code, if you want a professional package try dreamweaver, micrsofts replacement for front page is in beta now and is a free download and creates standards based code, as a freeware option try NVU, similar to older versions of dreamweaver and again standards compliant code. Avoid frontpage if at all possible.

FRONT PAGE??? AAAGGGHHHHHHHH
Get DW brutha..end of story. Adobe pruchased Macromedia so I can't see Go Live sticking around (no Fireworks for that matter).
FP is just a nasty development environment and you don't want to become dependant on it. Learn DW and that's what you'll be an expert it. You don't want to be a FP expert.
As far as migrating sites...there are a TON of SEO considerations if you have traffic or rankings.

MicroSTOOPID FRONT PAGE???
If you think your forehead is bruised now -- I sure would NOT recommend that to you, nor anyone else ... you'll find that many experienced Webmasters can't stand that gawd-awful piece of crap, mainly because we all know it throws literally hundreds of lines of completely useless code into your site!!!

Hello Michael,
I would suggest you do a search for HTML editors, do not jump into the overpriced and extremely overrated Dreamweaver.
There are some good editors out there and a lot of them are free

How can converting to Front Page possibly be relevant in Good Site Building Practices?
(sorry - I know some of you make good money on FP built sites)
Learn markup, learn to read it, learn to write it.
Knowing how to code a site not only gets rid of your dependancy of sloppy output generating software it's a skill and in todays digital age i think it's one of the few skills for life.
it's like riding a bike. fall off a few times, get bruised, get back on and once you've cracked it you never forget.
I suggest you take the plunge and learn how to write markup.

Converting from SiteBuilder to FrontPage
out of the frying pan into the fire huh ?
Your SiteBuilder pages should edit just fine in Front Page - of course Front Page is going to mangle your pages beyond all hope of them ever working well with another editor but thats a different story entirely.
