I have seen discussions saying it is important to post press releases
in the web site where the news occurred (The site we want to
market through the press release). Is there an extra advantage of it?
Any suggestions please.

There is a school of thought that says that if there is a duplicate content penalty, that you should post it first to your own site and wait until it is indexed by the search engines before submitting it elsewhere.

Hi Tribune,
Thanks, Now I got know why there is a fuss
about this. Other than that, is there a
marketing advantage of doing so?

It is impoirtant to ensure that any press release has newsworthy content. If it does not then it is a waste of time.
Having been and editor, I can say that 99% of news releases are a total waste of time from a new perspective, in fact often from any perspective!!
The same goes for articles! Sorry, I can't pass up the opportunity to say what a dire state article submissions are in. When I prepare a newsletter, I typically have about 100 submissions to go through. Out of 100 submissions, its a lucky day if 5 are even worthy of being considered for publishing.
People are getting too greedy with press releases and article submissions. They want to make them into ads rather than real news or real articles. What they fail to see is that the news or the article has far more potential than a 1 hour composed press release or article submission that will probably be rejected by most places.

Isn't the question though whether a press release should be posted to his own site first for a marketing advantage, rather than if it's worthwhile doing an article or press release?
Apart from the duplicate content question, I guess not really any more than any other site unless your own site has a particularly good pr?
But then it does add content to his site, which might give it it a boost in the search engines as it gives fresh content.

By definition a news release goes to media outlets for their use.
Naturally a copy should be posted on the person's own website.
A good news release must be well written - the first para whith who what why where when. The release should focus on facts, be written in the inverted pyramid style.
The use of 'keywords' will often mean a news release has its complexion changed for the worse and there fore be rejected at the first paragraph which is as far as most get read. In fact most get rejected at the headline stage.
