SR, have we lost focus? Seems to me that people do more with their hand than just code, why all the bashing of Fruity Program and Dream Beaver? While scarfing down a bowl of chow mien I had an idea, well actually a challenge for SR, that is if you decide to take this carrot.
How about SR promoting a monthly event like “Iron Chef” for webmasters? we could categorize it so the participants are pitted against their own genre (FP vs. FP etc.), if anything, we would all have some fun and possibly end up with sites that are even better.
Personally I would love to see a few “hand coders” get their butts kicked on a monthly basis. I will put my money on that sick o Mr. Mutilated
Yes SR, you would have to moderate and find judges with no bias. Winners could be acknowledged the monthly news letters and or rewarded with a juicy link full of alt text.

Actually I was pitting him against the hand coders.
Re read my comments, categorizing the different methods of coding and puts everyone on a level playing field. I think you are just afraid of the results.

It's an interesting idea - I'll put some thought into it.

how would it be judged? - We know coding perfection is not required for a successful website - so the fastest to develop a site based on supplied content, or the site that gets found by SE quickest?
Its a difficult one to judge!!

Ah TA, depends on the outcome - fasted way to build a site, best code, best ..... it all depends on what the terms of reference are.
I have one site I do not even attempt to update via anything other than FP - would take too damned long to find the info that needs cahnginf and updating etc. Try that on 100 pages in hand coding - gets really hard!! So in terms of speed....

It is when every change is unique, and the location and formating is different every time.
Not talking about a global search/replace here...

I got an idea for the Front Page contest...
How about - "Make a page with no-doctype and Microsoft proprietary HTML in the least possible time. Bonus points for refusing to understand why browsers other than Internet Explorer don't display it the way you intended."

Hmmm -- what subject?
That’s the beauty of FP, three different looking webs fro the price of one!
Too bad we lost focus again and reverted to FP bashing

That's what I'm talking about too; I don't "global search/replace here", and I can change to location/formatting on the fly.
OK - how and show me a page that you do it on

Thats right - 2 minutes or more per change, times perhaps 10 changes per page is 20 mins per page.
A WYSIWYG editor means it can be done in half the time.
And yes, I do know what I'm doing....
and yes I have tried it both ways...
and yes I do know the most efficient way of doing it.
Man, you hand jobs are getting feisty this week. As a Fruit Looper, I admire and bow down to your talents, but what's an idiot like me sposed to do? I'd like to watch the contest, too, and applaud Wave Splasher for thinking of it. Those of you who howl the loudest should be first in line. My money's on The Mute, too.

It's hard to imagine anybody is taking this idea seriously. What a waste of time!
Are there really any professional web designers who are actually using FP? Again, hard to believe!

It doesn't matter if your site was build in Word > Save As > HTML or knocked up on Notepad, PSpad or UltraEdit, as long as it gets the desired results, that's all that matters.
I'm a hand coder but I know there's FP built sites around that pull in more traffic. What's it matter?
I think the difference is some want it easy and some want to learn the craft. Personally I want to learn the craft behind it and know what different tags do etc.....
As for a challenge though, sounds interesting......
