Since the previous thread was not actually about the article (in
the Site Reference Newsletter for Fri May 12) itself, I will begin
a new one.
Excellent article! I particularly like the use of the 'code' tag
to cloak the email address in the 'noscript' tag. I wasn't aware
of this tag before. I'm going to try it on my websites, as right
now my email links are inaccessible to non-Javascript users and
text-readers.
The only thing I don't care for is the non-unobtrusive use of
javascript in the HTML. It's easily remedied by the use of DOM
scripting to dynamically-include the email link between two
empty 'span' tags containing an id attribute as a hook for the
script.

I would agree - that would be the one extra step that would make the script much better.
ColoEagle wrote the article - the work put into it is definitely appreciated.

Missed that idea.
As I stated in another one of the threads here, always learning from this forum.
I will be monitoring these test e-mails over the next few months and will make updates (good or bad) to this thread.

Update,
It has now been 90 days since I first posted or had posted the protected e-mail addresses to several websites.
Along with these hidden addresses I also posted a normaly displayed address so that I would have a way to verify that spambots have crawled the pages.
All four examples have been successful, no spam received from any of the sites with hidden addresses.
As for the normal addresses;
A total of 67 unsolicited e-mails have been received, primarily in the past 60 days.
There is one site where I have received nothing.
more later.

Here is something you all might know about, I thought I would post it anyway. It encrypts your email in ASCII and still works on web forms. Solved my problems with new spam. I still get the old crap but at least nothing new so far(over a month).
Well I hope it helps somebody!

Hello Dann,
You are correct, aware of this. That is a nice script. Do not want to discourage your use of it as it is useful. Not all the spambots have been updated.
Run the page you have your e-mail address coded this way at http://willmaster.com/possibilities/dem … Emails.cgi

My problem is due to the limitations I have I cannot Implement any other kind of shield against spambots in my webforms. I.E. Click Submit <mailto:myemai@ladress.com> so I really don't have a choice and I was very happy to find this as I could not use java or tags.
On all of the rest of my pages I use java but I just CAN'T get it to work on forms.
Oh well, good night all!
